For a Special menu item to be a selection on the Restaurant Check page page, the menu must be configured during either category set-up or menu item set-up to feature the selection. See Point of Sale (POS) Configuration Menu Overview for how to do this.
If the restaurant check is configured to feature such, the menu item is considered an Open item. This means it has no price associated with it so the price needs to be manually entered before posting.
During configuration, multiple open items can be specified in different categories.
For example, a fish special is featured regularly:
From the Categories list, select a category of food item by clicking on it.
In this example, the special is called Chef's Special Fish. When selected, the associated preparations and modifiers appear, as well as a red label "Open Item" above a box for the name and a box for the price to be manually entered.
These need to be manually completed before posting to the check; the name on the posting list will be as in the box and the total price posted will be as entered.
